About The Race

When and where is Bromo Marathon 2026?

Sunday, 6 September 2026 in Tosari, East Java, Indonesia. The race takes place in and around the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park at a starting elevation of 1.840 meters above sea level.

What race categories are available?

Five categories: 42K Full Marathon, 21K Half Marathon, 10K Trail Run, 5K Fun Run, and 2,5K Kids Run.

What time does each category start?

42K: 06:00 WIB, 21K: 06:30 WIB, 10K: 07:00 WIB, 5K: 07:30 WIB, 2,5K Kids: 07:45 WIB. Bag drop and runner warm-up begins at 05:30 WIB.

Where is the start and finish line?

The start and finish line is located at Plataran Bromo, Tosari.

Is Bromo Marathon a road race or a trail race?

It's both! The course is roughly 50% asphalt and 50% dirt trail. The terrain includes volcanic sand, rocky paths, and paved village roads.

What are the cut-off times?

42K: 10 hours, 21K: 7 hours, 10K: 4 hours, 5K: 3 hours, 2,5K Kids: 2 hours. Runners who exceed the cut-off will be pulled from the course for safety reasons.

What is the elevation gain for each category?

42K: +193m (max 2.491m), 21K: +977m (max 2.468m), 10K: +426m (max 2.130m), 5K: +241m (max 1.931m), 2,5K: +110m (max 1.910m). All courses start at 1.840m. Course elevations range from approximately 1.400m to 2.500m.

Is this race UTMB and ITRA certified?

Yes. Bromo Marathon is a UTMB Index race and ITRA certified. You will earn international ranking points for the 10K, 21K, and 42K categories.

What edition is this?

The 2026 race is the 13th edition of the International Bromo Marathon.

What language will be used during the event?

All official communications, course briefings, and signage will be in both Bahasa Indonesia and English.

Registration

How do I register?

Register online through our website at the Registration page. Complete your registration and payment. You will receive a confirmation email once payment is verified.

What are the registration fees?

Indonesian runners: 42K Rp900.000, 21K Rp800.000, 10K Rp700.000, 5K Rp600.000, 2,5K Kids Rp250.000. International runners: 42K Rp1.200.000, 21K Rp1.100.000, 10K Rp800.000, 5K Rp700.000. Prices may increase closer to race day.

What is included with registration?

Registration includes: race entry, goodie bag, race T-shirt, personalized BIB, unique finisher medal, finisher tee (Full Marathon only), medical care at first aid stations, fluid and fuel stations along the course, and fruit and refreshments after your finish.

When does registration close?

Registration closes when slots are full or 14 days before race day, whichever comes first. We recommend registering early as popular categories sell out quickly.

Does the registration fee include transportation and lodging?

No. The registration fee does not include the cost of transport or lodging. However, official shuttle services are available separately. For details, see the Location page.

Can I transfer my registration to someone else?

No. Entries are non-transferable. Attempting to transfer your entry may result in disqualification.

Is there a refund policy?

No. Entry fees are non-refundable. In the event of race cancellation due to force majeure, the committee will communicate options to registered participants.

Can I switch race categories after registering?

Yes. Category changes are subject to a processing fee of IDR 150.000 plus any difference in registration fees. If moving to a cheaper category, the difference is not refunded. Category changes cannot be made after registration closes.

What are the age requirements?

42K and 21K: minimum 18 years old on race day. 10K: minimum 16 years old. 5K: minimum 13 years old. 2,5K Kids Run: ages 5–12 with a parent or guardian present.

Can I authorize someone to pick up my race packet?

Yes. The authorized person must present: a signed acknowledgement letter from you, your race ticket printout, a copy of your ID (passport or KTP), and their own ID.

Can I pick up my race packet on race day?

No. Same-day race packet pick-up is not permitted. BIB collection takes place the day before race day (Saturday, 5 September 2026) at the race expo in Plataran Bromo, Tosari.

Rules & Mandatory Gear

Is mandatory gear really checked?

Yes. All mandatory gear is checked at BIB collection and may be spot-checked on course. Missing mandatory gear will result in disqualification.

What mandatory gear do I need?

Mandatory gear varies by category. For 42K and 21K: trail running shoes, hydration pack or bottles (minimum 1L capacity), rain jacket, emergency blanket, whistle, headlamp (42K only), and personal ID. The complete list will be published on the website and included in your registration confirmation.

What type of shoes should I wear?

Trail running shoes are strongly recommended for all categories. The terrain includes volcanic sand, rocky paths, and paved roads. Road running shoes may lack sufficient grip. Sandals and barefoot running are not permitted.

Can I use trekking poles?

Trekking poles are allowed for the 42K and 21K categories only. Poles must have rubber tips. Poles are not permitted for the 10K, 5K, and 2,5K categories.

Can I have a pacer?

Pacers are not allowed in any category. All runners must complete the course on their own.

Can I use headphones on the course?

Because much of the course is off-road where traffic is not an issue, headphones and music players are allowed. That said, you must remain aware of your immediate surroundings, course marshals, and other runners at all times.

What happens if I miss the cut-off?

Runners who reach a cut-off point after the designated time will be stopped and transported back to the finish area. This is strictly enforced for safety given the remote volcanic terrain.

Are skateboards, bikes, or other vehicles allowed on the course?

No. For the safety of runners, any person on the course with a skateboard, bike, scooter, or any other vehicle will be escorted off immediately by course marshals.

Course & Aid Stations

Are the courses marked?

Yes. All courses are fully marked with directional signage, course marshals at key junctions, and distance markers every kilometer. The 42K and 21K routes also have GPS tracking.

How many aid stations are there?

The 42K has aid stations approximately every 5–7 km. The 21K has stations every 4–5 km. Shorter categories have at least 2 aid stations each. Water, isotonic drinks, and snacks are provided.

Are drop bags available?

Drop bags are available for the 42K and 21K categories only. Drop bag locations will be announced during the race briefing.

What medical support is available?

Medical teams are stationed at the start/finish and at major aid stations along the course. An ambulance is on standby. For the 42K and 21K, additional medical checkpoints are placed at remote sections of the course.

Transportation & Accommodation

Where are the nearest airports?

The closest airports are Juanda International Airport in Surabaya (approximately 100 km) and Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport in Malang (approximately 50 km). Surabaya has significantly more flight options.

How do I get to Tosari?

Official shuttle services run from Juanda International Airport (Surabaya), Gubeng Station (Surabaya), and Malang Station. The drive from Surabaya is approximately 3–4 hours. See the Transportation page for schedules and pricing.

Is there accommodation near the venue?

Yes. Hotels and homestays are available in Tosari and surrounding villages. We recommend booking early as availability is limited during race weekend. See the Accommodation page for partner hotels.

Is there parking available?

Limited parking is available near the start/finish area. We strongly recommend using the official shuttle service. If you drive, arrive early as parking fills up quickly.

Do I need to arrive the day before?

Yes. BIB collection and race briefing take place the day before race day (Saturday, 5 September 2026). You must collect your BIB in person — no race-day collection is available.

Race Day & Results

Is there a race briefing?

Yes. A mandatory race briefing for 42K and 21K participants takes place on Saturday afternoon at the race village. 10K, 5K, and 2,5K participants are encouraged but not required to attend.

When will results be published?

Live timing is available on race day. Official results will be published on the website within 48 hours after the race.

Is there an awards ceremony?

Yes. The awards ceremony takes place at the finish area. Top 3 male and female finishers in each category receive trophies and prizes. Age group awards are also given for 42K and 21K.

Is there a kids category?

Yes. The 2,5K Kids Run is open to children aged 5–12. A parent or guardian must be present at the start and finish. The route uses safer, gentler terrain with marshals stationed throughout.
